As I have mentioned on the Facebook group I created, “Christian Survivalists,” as well as on my Facebook page, “LarryDHorton, PhD,” each of us needs to identify specific triggers that will be our survival journey into play. There are very specific categories that we must track constantly, always aware of what is happening in each specific area. When events, or trends, show that significant changes are in play or coming soon in each area, it is more than likely time to activate our survival plan. The following are those which my wife and I believe are the most critical to alert us that we must take action. You may have others that are just as important to you. We urge you to watch events daily and to be ready to move on a moments notice if necessary.
Social Changes: When you see significant changes in your society you need to decide if they present a danger to you. Changes in values, conflict between various tribal groups, e.g., ethnically or racially based, political system breakdowns, increases in armed conflicts, disregard for the rule of law, increases in impact of political correctness, increases in religious persecution, government intrusion in day-to-day decisions on the part of citizens, self-serving manufactured truth by the media or political leaders, increasing polarization along political party lines, all are possible social triggers. When these, or possible other changes, come in direct conflict with your values, you may be at a point where you need to make a serious decision.
International Changes: Changes on the international front similar to the social changes noted above could be a trigger. You need to be aware of such changes around the world. You need to assume that if things are changing internationally there is a high likelihood that those same issues will surface in your own situation. Historical threats internationally must be watched as well. These could be financial, economic, or military threats. In today’s world you cannot ignore terroristic threats. They will surface in your world at home. An increase in potential military or terror threats is a definite trigger. It is impossible to live in our world today without being impacted by international events. Don’t hide your head in the sand and ignore what is going on thousands of miles from you. The consequences of international events will impact you. Don’t put your future at risk by saying international events are happening “over there,” I don’t need to worry about them.
U.S. Infrastructure: Changes in your ability to get things you need to live, e.g., food, fuel, water, travel, finances, and many other things, are a possible trigger. A breakdown of both the domestic and international financial and economic systems is a definite trigger. An overburdened healthcare system is a natural trigger. Crumbling roads, bridges, material production, food production and delivery, all mean that life as you have known it could be changing. Conflict between groups of people over dwindling supplies could mean that you could be drawn into confrontation just to have the basics for living. When you see groups of people, or regions of the country, at each other’s throats to secure just basic needs you are seeing a possible trigger. Your own planning and preparation must be in place should these triggers surface.
There are likely other possible triggers in your situation, in your location. The message I am trying to convey is the importance of identifying meaningful triggers that will initiate your survival efforts. You cannot afford to ignore what is going on around you. You life, and the lives of those you love, will hinge on the efforts you make to know what is going on around you. Don’t wait till later to
