If and when you find yourself in a survival situation you need to have a realistic perspective on what you can do and cannot do. The old phrase, “know thyself,” is really important when you face situations that will tax you physically, emotionally and psychology.
First, physically. As we age our physical abilities tend to diminish. We aren’t as strong as we used to be. Our stamina tends to lessen. Dexterity tends to lessen. We can’t work as long or as hard as we used to. Our bodies change. Aches and pains seem to happen more often and linger for much longer periods of time. Physical maladies appear, e.g., high blood pressure, digestion problems, joint and muscle issues, slow us down. We find ourselves dependent on pills to maintain our bodies balance.
Second, emotionally. Again as we age, some things that did not bother us before seem to become major issues. As things which we considered dependable and normal go away our emotional ability to handle the differences lessens. Changes in our social environment, family, friends, things which we handled easily in the past now seem to throw us for a loop. Our need for others changes over time. We find ourselves hoping for the stability of a lot of simple things and tend to shy away from risk and adventure.
Third, psychologically. As stresses and change increase our ability to cope realistically struggles. We tend to trust people, what they say and do, less than we would have in the past. Being alone becomes something difficult to handle.
All of these can lead to the breakdown of our abilities that used to be normal. Life takes on a totally different perspective. When young, we didn’t think about our mortality much. As we age, mortality comes more to the fore.
A survival situation has physical, emotional and psychological impacts that are much greater that what had been our normal lives previously. To survive you will need to understand and prepare for these changes. They will impact your ability to actually survive. Know yourself, know what you can do, be realistic, then use that knowledge to plan, prepare and undertake your survival journey. Be honest with yourself and with others. Dishonesty will lead to the end game. Choose to Survive!
