I am not a doctor or someone who makes a living talking to people about their diet. I am, however, someone who has studied what kind of diet will give you the best chance of surviving. So take what I say below as my opinion, my thoughts, on the critical subject of a survival diet. Understand, each individual is different, some cannot eat certain foods because of allergies and the like, but each of us is responsible to eat the best diet we can that will give us strength and stamina to make it through a survival situation.
Physical strength and health will be critical to your being able to survive either a natural or man-made survival situation. The food you eat determines whether you will have the physical and emotional strength, the stamina, to deal with survival stresses, challenges, dangers, and physical demands that you will have to deal with.
Calories will be very important. Calories are what makes your body’s engine function. It takes calories just to exist if all you do is sit all day on your couch. Thank about how you lose weight when you are sick. You don’t want to eat because you feel so bad. So, you lose weight as you sit or lay around trying to feel better. You body’s engine doesn’t shut down just because you are sick.
Processed foods provide less food value and lots of calories. The great majority of what we eat today is processed food, robbed of much of the nutrition that one finds in natural, raw, wild plants and animals.
Should you find yourself in a survival situation you will need to increase the amount of calories you eat. Meat is the best source of calories. Fat is second. Some plants, e.g,, legumes and nuts provide both decent amounts of calories and fats. Fat is a needed fuel for your body.
Fad diets, those that you see advertised on TV, tell you to stay away from fats and calories. Why do they say that? Because they are talking to people who live on a processed food diet, don’t exercise, vegetate, while their body’s store up unused fats and calories. They are not talking to people who eat a balanced diet, who exercise regularly, who are prepared to face the stresses of life full of strength and vitality.
Your diet will change in a survival situation. The volume of food you eat will likely be less that what you consume today. Given that, you will need to eat foods that fuel your body. You will need to eat more calories to burn. The only rub in that is that in a survival situation food will be scarce. Much of each day will be spent finding food, calories, just to make it through the day.
You will only survive as long as your body has the strength and stamina that is needed to deal with your new life. That may begin tomorrow. Today is the day to change your diet. Eat foods that will give you strength and healthy. The choice is yours. Continue to put foods in your mouth that offers no long-term survival capability, or change and eat what will build your body. The choice is yours. Choose to Survive!
