Whether you are experiencing a man-made or natural threat to your safety there are a pack of dangers lurking outside your front door that you could possibly face in either scenario. Over the weeks ahead I will be looking at the principles of survival that you can apply to either situation. But first makes sense to identify a general list of sources of the dangers, risks and threats that you will face.
Each of the following, in a somewhat arbitrary ranking of potential danger, will be looked at in more detail beginning next weeks. Here is the list: FEAR (capitalized for some obvious reasons as the one danger that will do you in faster than any of the others); Other human beings; Armed or physical conflict with desperate people; Critters; Physical injuries to yourself or others you are surviving with; Self-doubt; Unrealistic views of your physical and emotional capabilities; Loneliness (something I have written about in a previous blog); Weather (something you have absolutely no control over).
As I write about the subjects above others will likely be added to this list. The entire picture of survival hinges on the fact that many things around you will put you in danger. You will not be able to control most, if not all, of the dangers. You will only be able to react to them, plan and prepare for them, then adapt and adjust using your survival knowledge and skills to avoid any of them defeating you. Life, whether the one we are living now, or what we might be required to live in a survival situation, is only possible when we have learned how to go with the punches that life throws at us and move into the next day with a reasonable chance of surviving. Choose to Survive!
